At the begining it was: „Prace Komisji Nauk Farmaceutycznych" („Papers of Committee of Pharmaceutical Sciences") under this title appeared four volumes (1949-1953).

Since the establishment of The Department of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1954 (actually The Institute of Pharmacology PAS from 1974), the journal was edited by our Institute.

The first title of the journal was Latin: "Dissertationes Pharmaceuticae", it appeared quarterly, in Polish. Since 1966 it appeared bimonthly as „Dissertationes Pharmaceuticae at Pharmacologicae". Next change was in 1973 – new title „Polish Journal of Pharmacology and Pharmacy" and change of language of publication on English. Since 1993 – the title was: „Polish Journal of Pharmacology". Together with changes of titles change the scope of journal from „pharmacy" to „pharmacology", mainly „pharmacology of central nervous system".

Last change had place in 2005 with vol. 57 – actually the title of journal is „Pharmacological Reports". Its character becomes international.
